CGMA Digital Painting Class
Here are a few things from my digital painting class. I'll need to polish up the designs for the finals submission, but these show what our assignments are usually like.

I'm Learning to Paint
Hi everyone. Been awhile. Sorry. I have a whole bunch of live study updates, which I will post when I get them off my phone camera. In the meantime, here are some of my quick color experiments.
As always, these are studies done from random images I found on the web.
When I started doing these, I was having trouble understanding value, temperature and saturation. Straight copy was the best I could do.
My goal was to see how contrast between different areas dictated what I perceived. Values clicked for me when I was doing the images in the middle row. When I started doing the desert scene, I understood how to properly use temperature contrast.
Once I figure all this out, I gained control of the focal area (2 desert images from the right).
Top 3 images took me a few hours to paint (2 to 3 hours per image). Middle row was about an hour per image (the one on the right took around 30 minutes). Bottom row images took from 15 to 5 minutes. Always a nice feeling when understanding clicks and the dreadful feeling of despair goes away.
At the very least, I know what I'm looking at now and all I need is lots of practice; it's not a brick wall anymore for me. I should be able to start painting from imagination very soon.
I'll also do an upload of all my quarter work as soon as the quarter is over. As always, thanks for stopping by.

CGMA winter Quarter: Week 4

More Live Studies
Hi everyone!
Sorry it took me a while to post an update. I've been slammed with all my classes and work. Here are a few new pieces I did in my Live Study class. The image with the 2 models was giving me so much grief, I almost gave up. I decided to continue out of stubbornness and ended up with a somewhat presentable piece.
The model sitting with her back toward us was done in about 40 minutes, the model on her back was completed in around 30. The piece with two models took about 2 hours 20 minutes of intense struggle, at which point I erased the sitting model and drew an improved version of her in the last 20 minutes of the 3 hour session.
The lesson I learned from all these is that I need to improve my understanding of hands (among other things), so I'm doing a bunch of hand copies from Bridgman. I hope we'll see an improvement in the future.
I'll try to post new work from my CGMA classes, when I make something post-worthy.

1000 Gestures
Hi everyone!
Time for an update. Here are some more live studies. The sketchy images were completed in around 30 minutes (could be 40). The male nude was done in 3 hours. Every time I make one of these, they look worse and worse. I console myself by reminding me that I've put in the hours, so I hope I'll eventually improve..
And on a slightly related note, here are my final 100 gestures: the 1000 gesture drawings challenge is now officially complete!
I will now switch to drawing the rest of my 1000 face gestures and then go down the list of other things I want to draw a thousand times :)

First Live Study
Finally did my first live model study today :) It was a 3 hour session. Made a lot of mistakes, but I've put in the time and will continue doing this; that should cut down on the number of mistakes I'm making.
I also completed another pose gesture sheet. I think I'm at 800 gestures right now. Almost there.

quick studies
Did one more sheet of comps and my first quick color study. I pulled a photo off the web of a temple high up in the mountains. No idea who shot the original photo, but great study material. If you know who shot it, please let me know: I will be happy to give credit, as always.
